Assessing the drivers, costs, policies and interventions
This project aims to offer initial insights drawn from existing literature regarding the current state of mental health both in Saudi Arabia (KSA) and on a global scale. Its objective is to initiate a discussion that can inform the development of a comprehensive work program on Mental Health in KSA. Specifically, the paper addresses the following inquiries:
- Understanding Mental Health in KSA: Investigating the current state of mental health and wellbeing in KSA, along with an examination of available services for addressing mental health (MH) and wellbeing (WB) issues. This entails a review of the existing literature to determine the prevalence of mental health issues in KSA, identifying high-risk population groups, and exploring challenges related to accessing mental health services.
- Health Impacts and Expenditure: Analyzing the health impacts of mental health issues and exploring the connection with health expenditure. Data from the Global Burden of Disease Database is utilized to identify potential factors influencing the mental health and wellbeing of the Saudi population. Furthermore, regression analysis is employed to discern any correlation between health expenditure and the increasing mental health challenges in KSA.
- Effective Policies and Interventions: Investigating successful policies and interventions aimed at promoting mental health and wellbeing. This aspect is addressed through a narrative review of global evidence, with the goal of identifying effective and economically viable mental health interventions.
